Get to the Point Leeds Digital Festival 2023

By: Richard Michie

In our second year of running Get to the Point at Leeds Digital Festival, we decided to step up our game a little and move to the offices of Glean at Leeds Dock. With improved tech and lovely surroundings, we brought nine great speakers to this year’s Get to the Point.

If you’ve not come across Get to the Point before, there are three simple rules that help it stand out from other speed-presenting events you might have come across before.

  • Each speaker has just 20 slides
  • Each slide changes automatically after 15 seconds. We set the timing so the speaker has no control over when they change.
  • No SALES PITCHES. This rule means that you’re never going to hear someone sell their latest software or revolutionary face cream!

Get to the Point gives a different perspective

These rules mean that our speakers really have to focus their talks, cut out the waffle and get to the point. It engenders storytelling and makes the talks, not just interesting, but fun too.

On the night we raised money for our chosen charity Simon on the Streets. So not only did we have fun we raised a few quid for the homeless too.

We’ve run Get to the Point twice before now, once at last year’s Digital Festival and a standalone Get to the Point in early 2023.

Here’s how Get to the Point played out

So without further ado, here are all the formal talks we had on the night, as well as two Random Slide Challengers who had 2.5 minutes to present slides they had never seen before.
