Valentine’s day is a topic loved and loathed by people in equal measure, but no matter if you’re a big soppy romantic, or think Valentine’s day is a silly hallmark holiday, it has always been a big date on the marketing calendar. For us marketing professionals, this time of year is all about valentines day marketing.
No matter if you’re in a long-term relationship and are already feeling frosty about the approaching celebration of love and romance, or if you’ll be seeing in Valentine’s day single this year, this list of our team’s favourite Valentines day marketing campaigns is bound to warm your heart a little.
Prudential: We wanna be together
Though this isn’t ‘technically’ a Valentine’s ad it talks a lot about relationships with humour and insight. Crucially it also left a lasting impression, the tag line “We wanna be together” is still something people, of a certain age, react to when it’s trotted out. Not sure how many people recall that it’s actually an ad for Prudential, who have no been rebranded as Pru. Richard.
Match.com: Match Made in Hell
After the rollercoaster year that was 2020, Match.com’s Valentines day marketing campaign added humour to the experience we all had that year, and it’s a great ad! You can really relate to everything, right down the toilet paper. That relatability is what is so important for the success of this advert, as we can all relate to a bad dating experience in our past. Georgia.
Tesco: Introducing basket dating
I love the impromptu way of finding love in a supermarket. Dating can be tricky, but if sharing love through your shopping basket works, then I’m all for it! Annie.
Panasonic: Musical Doorbells
The Valentines day marketing campaign, for Panasonic Musical Doorbells, initially caught my eye due to its rather silly concept. However, it’s executed so beautifully, with warm visuals rich with class, that I’m not only drawn in but able to forget that they are at odds with the concept itself. Chris.
There are many brilliant Valentines day marketing campaigns that we really love, but just didn’t quite make the cut, I guess you will have to wait till next year!
